When will I get my refund?

The time can vary from person to person.  You can check your refund status at IRS.gov.

Do I owe taxes on the aid I received from unemployment?

By law, unemployment compensation is taxable and must be reported on a 2020 federal income tax return. (IRS Filing)

I never received the stimulus check(s). Can I get a credit?

If you didn’t get a first and second Economic Impact Payment or got less than the full amount, you may be eligible to claim the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit and must file a 2020 tax return even if you don’t usually file a tax return.

Clients can get answers to their tax questions online using the Interactive Tax Assistant at IRS.gov or contact the IRS via phone call.  Baker Ripley Tax Centers is a free tax preparation service that can answer questions as well.  When in doubt our clients should contact a certified tax professional or CPA.
